The local Wade Adams has been awarded the AED800m ($218m) contract to construct phase 4 of the Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project in Dubai.

The contract involves working on 4.8 kilometres of Sheikh Rashid Road from the intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Interchange on Al-Mina Road.

The work includes constructing three bridges spanning 3.1km in total. When completed, they will have the capacity to accommodate 19,400 vehicles an hour across all lanes.

The first bridge has three lanes and is 1,335 metres long. It will connect Sheikh Rashid Road and the Falcon Intersection with a capacity of 10,800 vehicles an hour in both directions.

The second bridge has three lanes and is 780m long. It will serve the traffic inbound from Falcon Interchange heading to Al-Wasl Road with a capacity of 5,400 vehicles an hour.

The third bridge has two lanes and extends 985m. It will cater to inbound traffic from Jumeirah Street heading to Al-Mina Road in the direction of Falcon Interchange and will have the capacity to handle 3,200 vehicles an hour.

The estimated AED5.3bn Shindagha Corridor Improvement scheme encompasses the construction of 15 intersections along 13km of highway. The project has been split into five phases and includes the recently opened Infinity Bridge across Dubai Creek.

Contractors that have worked on earlier phases of the scheme include Wade Adams, the local Al-Naboodah Contracting Company, Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation and Belgium’s Six Construct.

US-based Parsons is the consultant. The client is the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).

The corridor serves Deira and Bur Dubai and several development projects such as Dubai Islands, Dubai Seafront, Dubai Maritime City and Port Rashid.
