Tadweer awards $530m of contracts

20 January 2023

Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) has signed five operations contracts worth AED2bn ($530m) related to solid waste management and public cleaning services in Abu Dhabi.

The six-year contracts were signed with Alphamed Abu Dhabi and Terberg RosRoca Vehicle Manufacturing; Beeah Sharjah Environment Company; Averda Waste Management; and a joint venture of Lavajet Al-Ain and Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport.

The contracts cover solid waste collection and transportation services, public cleaning services in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and waste-container management and maintenance in Abu Dhabi.

Tadweer is exploring cooperation opportunities in transforming solid municipal waste selectively into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the potential to convert waste into fuel and sustainable chemical materials.

Along with Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Water & Electricity Company (Ewec), it is the client for the contract to develop Abu Dhabi's first waste-to-energy (WTE) project.

The plant will be located near the Al-Dhafra landfill in Abu Dhabi. It will have a processing capacity of 900,000 tonnes of waste a year and generate enough electricity to power up to 52,500 households once complete.

The project will involve the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the WTE plant, which will use advanced moving-grate technology to convert municipal solid waste into electricity using a high-efficiency steam turbine generator set.

The clients issued the request for proposals for the contract on 20 July. The companies that are qualified to bid for the contract as a managing partner are:
