Riyadh $690m gardens project hits milestone

Construction works on the King Abdulla Gardens (Kaga) are progressing and expected to be completed within the next two years, said Mohammed Al Wabely, assistant deputy mayor – Riyadh Iconic Projects, Riyadh Region Municipality, at the MEED Saudi Giga Projects event in Riyadh.

“We are in the middle of the construction process and expect to finish within the next one to two years,” said Al Wabely.

The Kaga botanical garden is a green destination with a budget of over $690m.

Al Wabely adds that this is "one of the biggest projects we are developing today" and “once completed, the 2 million-square-metre garden is expected to attract over 3 million local visitors annually by 2030".

Saudi Arabia has grand plans for the capital. In 2021, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman outlined plans to make Riyadh one of the top 10 largest city economies in the world.

The Crown Prince previously stated that Riyadh is ranked among the top 40 largest city economies worldwide, and his target is to increase its population from 7.5 million to around 15-20 million in 2030.
