NMDC wins $104m Oman marina contract

5 May 2025

Abu Dhabi-based construction firm NMDC Group has announced that it has been awarded a AED383m ($104m) contract for the construction of a marina project in Oman.

According to an official statement published on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, NMDC said: "The project is expected to be completed within 15 months from the date of signing."

MEED understands that the project scope involves the dredging of an access channel and basin in addition to breakwater construction for a marina project located in Salalah, Oman.

In December last year, NMDC Group announced that it had been awarded a AED170m ($46m) contract to carry out reclamation works at Ramhan Island in Abu Dhabi.

The deal was awarded by local firm Eagle Hills, which is led by Mohamed Alabbar, the founder and chairman of Emaar Properties.

In October, MEED exclusively reported that Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer Modon Properties had awarded a AED5.1bn ($1.4bn) contract to NMDC Group for a project in Abu Dhabi.

In its filing to the Abu Dhabi Exchange, NMDC said that “the scope of work includes marine dredging, reclamation and ground improvement works for one of Modon’s projects in Abu Dhabi”.

MEED understands that the contract award was for a scheme known as the Nisi project, located off the coast of Abu Dhabi in the Taweelah area.

GlobalData forecasts the Omani construction industry to expand at an annual average growth rate of 4.2% in 2025-28. Growth in the country will be supported by rising government investments in renewable energy, the transport infrastructure and the housing sector, all as part of Oman's Vision 2040 strategy.

Growth during the forecast period will also be supported by increasing hospitality sector investments, with the government planning to invest RO11.9bn ($31bn) in tourism development projects by 2040 and supporting the construction of several hospitality projects.
