US seeks firms for Baghdad power plant package
26 February 2024
The US State Department has requested information from companies that can undertake the design-and-build contract for the remediation of an existing power plant at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
The project scope covers the remediation of the central power plant’s operational, maintenance and performance challenges.
According to the information request document, the selected contractor will design and install modifications to the existing central power plant at the 42-hectare US Embassy compound in Baghdad.
The modifications will encompass its mechanical, electrical, controls and other factors affecting its performance.
The approximate design-and-build project cost for the firm-fixed price contract is between $68m and $80m.
It is understood that the State Department's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operation undertook an independent forensic study on the challenges at the power plant in 2022-23.
The contractor will be tasked with independently developing engineering solutions based on the recommendations from the independently conducted forensic investigation, the information request document said.
The document specified that the contractor being sought for the project may have a special interest in small business, women-owned small business and service-disabled veteran-owned business, in accordance with the North American Industry Classification System code 236220.
The capacity of the existing plant has yet to be specified.
The client expects to receive responses to its information request by 20 March.
