Tadweer to develop waste-to-energy plant in Australia

14 January 2026

Abu Dhabi-based Tadweer Group has signed a joint development agreement (JDA) to develop a waste-to-energy facility in New South Wales in Australia.

The announcement was made by Tadweer Group chief executive Ali Al-Dhaheri during the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

The project will be developed in Parkes, New South Wales, in collaboration with Australian firms Cleanaway Waste Management, Tribe Infrastructure Group and Parkes Energy Recovery, subject to planning approval.

Cleanaway will act as the waste management operator for the project, while Tribe Infrastructure Group is the project developer and infrastructure adviser. Tadweer Group will be the controlling shareholder.

Once completed, the facility will process about 700,000 tonnes of waste annually and generate around 70MW of electricity, enough to power approximately 100,000 homes.

Al-Dhaheri said the project demonstrates that “Emirati expertise is globally relevant”, adding that circular economy infrastructure developed in the UAE can be exported to international markets.

The Australia project is part of Tadweer’s broader strategy to expand its international waste-to-energy portfolio and strengthen energy security through circular-economy infrastructure.

In November, Tadweer and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) signed a JDA to develop Abu Dhabi’s first commercial-scale waste-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant.

Masdar also recently agreed to divest its stake in the Sharjah waste-to-energy plant to Tadweer Group, bringing Tadweer and local firm Beeah Group together as partners in the Emirates Waste-to-Energy joint venture.
