Saudi Water Authority awards transmission contract

Saudi Services for Electro Mechanic Works has been appointed as the main contractor for package B of phase one of the Riyadh Northern Ring water transmission system. The contract is valued at $146m.

The scope of work includes laying water pipelines, constructing pumping stations, building water diversion structures, carrying out infrastructure works and constructing associated facilities.

The Riyadh Northern Ring water transmission system is being developed by Saudi Water Authority (SWA) as part of a $266m masterplan to expand the capital’s water supply capacity.

Phase 1 involves the construction of multiple large reservoirs, ranging in size from 60,000 to 170,000 cubic metres, as well as pumping stations and transmission pipelines.

Package B focuses on the transmission pipeline and related works. In parallel, package C, valued at $120m, covers the construction of strategic reservoirs in Shaqra, Ghanman, Majmaah and Alghat. Al-Rawaf Trading & Contracting won this contract and began construction work earlier this year.

SWA, formerly Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), also recently awarded the contract to supply power to the Saad water station in Riyadh.

This will establish a main transformer station at 132/33 kV to supply Saad Station 1 and Saad Station 2 with a combined load of 128 megavolt-amperes, replacing existing diesel generators.
