Saudi Baytur wins Amaala marine institute and yacht club

The local Saudi Baytur has been awarded two contracts for construction work at the Amaala development on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia.

One contract covers the concrete, steel and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works for the Yacht Club at Triple Bay. The other covers the concrete and steel works for the Marine Life Institute, also at Triple Bay.

The 10,340 square-metre institute will comprise three levels – one above ground and two below. The yacht club covers 7,900 sq m and is set on four levels.

S-based architect HKS designed the Yacht Club, while UK-based Foster & Partners designed the Marine Life Institute.

The building work contracts at Amaala follow last year's award of a contract for primary infrastructure at Triple Bay. The local Al-Ayuni Investment & Contracting was awarded the estimated SR1bn ($267m) deal.

Saudi gigaproject developer Red Sea Global (RSG) is overseeing the development of Amaala along with the Red Sea Project and other yet-to-be-announced schemes in Saudi Arabia.

In mid-March, RSG said it would award SR30bn ($8bn) of contracts across its Red Sea Project and Amaala developments this year. There has been SR27bn awarded so far on the Red Sea Project and just under SR13bn on Amaala.

RSG has adopted a construction management approach to deliver its projects. Projects are broken down into individual trade works packages procured by RSG, rather than awarding projects to a series of main contractors. There are typically about 20 works packages for each project.
