Red Sea Global appoints hotel MEP contractor

Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Global (RSG) has awarded a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract to the joint venture of Egyptian contractors Kortech and Sharqawi Electromechanical Contracting Company. The contract is for the medical wellness resort at the Wellness Core development that is part of the Amaala tourism scheme on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast.

The development includes a 70-key hotel, 13 branded residences and villas covering an area of 84,095 square metres.

Kortech is a subsidiary of Egypt-based Hassan Allam Construction.

In January, a joint venture of Hassan Allam and the local Rawabi Specialised Contracting was appointed as the main contractor to build the medical wellness resort at Amaala.

South African architectural firm DSA Architects International is the project consultant.

In May last year, RSG selected the joint venture of Hassan Allam Construction and Rawabi Specialised Contracting for the contract to build the Six Senses Residence & Hotel at Amaala’s Triple Bay development.

The project includes the main hotel structure, branded residential villas and hotel villas with a total construction area of 41,000 sq m.

RSG awarded the Hassan Allam and Rawabi joint venture the contract to build the Rosewood Residence & Hotel project at Triple Bay earlier in 2023. It consists of branded residences, hotel villas and a main hotel.

Amaala progress

Amaala is a coastal development that covers an area of about 2,500 square kilometres and will be developed in phases. Phase one, focused on the Triple Bay masterplan, is expected to be completed in 2027. It will consist of eight resorts offering upwards of 1,200 hotel keys.

The total development will include 27 hotels with a combined 37,000 keys.

RSG has adopted a construction management approach to the delivery of its projects. Schemes are divided into individual trade works packages procured by the developer rather than awarded to a series of main contractors. There are typically about 20 works packages for each project.
