Oman retenders 400km of highway construction

10 July 2023

Oman’s Ministry of Transport Communications & Information Technology has retendered packages 3, 4 and 5 for the dualisation of Adam-Thumrait Road. The deadline for submitting bids is 14 August.

The reissued tender is open exclusively for Saudi-Omani joint ventures. The contracts were tendered in 2019 and were later cancelled for unknown reasons.

Package 3 covers a 132.5-kilometre-long stretch of highway that connects Haima with Maqshan. It includes the construction of roads with 16 detour lanes along with an intersection for Maqshan and 19 side parking slots.

Package 4 is 135km long and connects Maqshan to Dokah. The scope includes the construction of roads with 14 detour lanes and 27 side parking lots.

Package 5 measures 132.7km and links Dokah with Thumrait. The package includes the construction of roads with 20 detour lanes and 16 parking lots.

Packages 1 and 2 were completed in 2019. UAE-based Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting Company was the contractor for package 1. Lebanon-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) was the contractor for package 2.

US-based Parsons is the consultant for the Adam-Thumrait Road expansion project. The project links Muscat and Salalah through a fully dualised road. The project will upgrade the existing single-carriageway between Adam and Thumrait to a four-lane carriageway. The 717.5km-long highway project is divided into five different packages.
