Oman extends concession agreement for onshore block

24 September 2025

Oman’s Ministry of Energy & Minerals (MEMR) has extended the exploration and production sharing agreement for onshore Block 47 with Italian major Eni and majority state-owned OQ Exploration & Production (OQEP) by six months.

Eni holds a 90% stake in Block 47, which covers 8,524 square kilometres in Ad‑Dakhiliyah governorate, while OQEP – the upstream oil and gas business of OQ Group – holds the remaining 10%.

The MEMR’s extension – the second this year – gives the Eni/OQEP consortium concession rights until 24 March 2026. The original concession period ran until 24 March 2025. The MEMR signed the exploration and production sharing agreement with the consortium on 25 March 2020.

The concession extension allows the Eni/OQEP consortium to continue exploration activities in Block 47.

The partners have already drilled an exploration well named Najid-1, which will enable them to conclude post-well technical studies and formulate a strategy for Block 47, Muscat Stock Exchange-listed OQEP said in a statement.

Drilling of Najid‑1 commenced in February and was completed in July, reaching a total depth of 4,788 metres.

“The targets were reached, and good gas shows were encountered in the Natih reservoir interval. Currently, the well is suspended, and the rig is released,” OQEP said.

An extensive post-well analysis of the data collected is in progress, it added.
