Masdar to develop 10GW projects in Malaysia

9 October 2023

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has signed an agreement with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) to develop 10,000MW of renewable energy projects in the Southeast Asian nation by 2035.

Senior government delegations from both Malaysia and the UAE witnessed the signing of the agreement between Masdar CEO, Mohamed Jameel al-Ramahi, and Mida CEO, Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman.

In August this year, Masdar signed a separate memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Citaglobal for the joint development of renewable energy projects across solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind and other renewable energy technologies in Malaysia.

Masdar and Citaglobal intend to jointly develop projects across the renewable energy mix in the Malaysian state of Pahang.

Southeast Asia is a key investment destination for Masdar. The company has developed the region’s largest floating solar facility in Indonesia – the 145MW Cirata floating solar photovoltaic plant – which will generate enough electricity to power 50,000 homes.

In February this year, Masdar entered the geothermal energy sector through a strategic investment in Indonesia’s Pertamina Geothermal Energy.
