Masdar and Acwa Power to develop Caspian offshore wind

15 November 2024

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has signed a preliminary agreement with Azerbaijan's Socar Green and Saudi-listed Acwa Power to develop 3.5GW of offshore wind projects in the Azerbaijan section of the Caspian Sea.

In a statement, Masdar said the agreement supports plans by Azerbaijan to develop renewable energy, green hydrogen and water desalination projects.

The potential projects would be Azerbaijan’s first offshore wind farms.

They will complement existing renewable energy plants developed by Masdar and Acwa Power in Azerbaijan.

Masdar’s existing projects in the Central Asian country include three solar power plants with a total combined capacity of more than 1GW.

Acwa Power is developing the 240MW Khizi-Absheron wind power plant.

Established in 2024, Socar Green is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Socar.
