Local contractor wins Bu Hasa field contract

The onshore arm of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc Onshore) has awarded a contract to carry out maintenance and modification works and to install new units at the Bu Hasa onshore oil field development.

Local contractor Robt Stone has won the contract from Adnoc Onshore, valued about $95m, according to sources.

It is understood that Robt Stone commenced work on the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on 27 December.

Adnoc Onshore operates Bu Hasa, which is Abu Dhabi's biggest onshore field, with a crude oil production capacity of 650,000 barrels a day (b/d). The Bu Hasa asset is located 200 kilometres south of Abu Dhabi city and is one of Adnoc's oldest oil fields, having been in production since 1965.

This Bu Hasa project covers four main EPC components: a new flow suction tank (FST), access platforms, dead-leg repair works and a sewage treatment plant (STP).

Detailed scope of work

The contractor is required to install a new FST at the Bu Hasa central degassing station. The scope of work in this component also involves replacement of the existing 8-inch condensate lines from flare knockout drums to degassing boots that face integrity issues.

Since several instruments such as separators and FSTs are located at a height, temporary platforms are used to get access for routine maintenance. The second component addresses this through the construction of permanent access platforms that will allow convenient accessibility and maintenance works and make dealing with emergency situations easier.

The third component covers replacing the existing dead-leg portion of the piping network with corrosion-resistant alloy material, to maintain the efficiency of the existing units.

The last component calls upon the contractor to build a new STP to treat drainage from Adnoc Onshore’s on-site worker accommodation block, cafe and other civil areas.

The new STP is to be constructed adjacent to, and tied-in with, an existing STP, from where it will collect all discharge material. The new unit will also take in drainage from future units to be built at Bu Hasa, such as workshops and laboratories.

Following the commissioning of the new STP, the current one is to be demolished by the contractor.
