Libyan oil production hits 10-year high

6 January 2026

Libya’s crude oil production hit a 10-year high in 2025, with an average annual production of 1.374 million barrels a day (b/d), according to the North African country’s National Oil Corporation (NOC).

Production volumes were up by 2% compared to 2024, when average production was 1.136 million b/d.

Higher crude prices meant that oil revenues rose by 18% to nearly $22bn.

NOC is planning to launch its first oil and gas licensing round in 15 years later this year.

The bid round for exploration and production agreements (EPSAs) is expected to offer exploration blocks in the Murzuq, Ghadames and Sirte basins.

Last year, NOC announced a plan to execute 45 greenfield and brownfield projects to try to boost the country’s oil production from 1.25 million barrels a day (b/d) to 2 million b/d.

Libya is aiming to hit its 2 million b/d target within three years.

In recent years, Libya has struggled to execute large projects amid significant political instability.
