Jordan's Ministry of Water and Irrigation, through the Jordan Valley Authority, has invited interested companies to prequalify for a contract to construct a water conveyor project extending from Telal al-Thalab to the King Abdullah Canal.

The scope of work for the water transmission pipeline project includes:

  • diversion weir and an intake structure
  • control room and guard house
  • service road
  • supply line to convey the diverted water to the settling basin site
  •  settling basin
  •  main conveyor of approximately 39km of ductile iron pipes, ranging in diameter from 1400mm to 800mm
  • service road
  • nine steel utility bridges
  • connections to turnouts including emergency connections
  • three storage ponds with a total storage volume of approximately 77,000 cubic metres

The project is located in the Jordan Valley, extending from an upstream location on Zarqa River, at Telal Al-Thahab, to the downstream location on King Abdallah Canal, at Turnout 95.

King Abdullah Canal is the largest irrigation canal system in the kingdom that runs parallel to the east bank of the Jordan River.

The client expects to receive prequalification applications on 20 November.

Local and international contractors can prequalify to bid for the contract. Joint ventures are required to submit a letter of intent, with the partners recognising that they are capable of delivering the project if one of the consortium partners withdraws from the project.

The European Investment Bank will finance the project.
