Dubai-based real estate developer Ellington Properties has awarded a AED1bn-plus ($272m) contract for the construction of its Mercer House project in the Uptown area adjacent to Jumeirah Lake Towers in Dubai.

The contract was awarded to Beijing-headquartered construction firm China Railway 18th Bureau Group.

The project comprises two towers, a 34-storey North Tower and a 41-storey South Tower, offering studio, one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments, as well as four-bedroom penthouses.

Further details about the construction have yet to be provided.

In August, Ellington Properties launched a commercial project named Eaton Square in the Mohammad Bin Rashid City area of Dubai.

Eaton Square is Ellington's first commercial project and consists of 11 floors offering Grade A office spaces and retail facilities.

Construction is slated to begin this year and the project is expected to be completed by 2027.

Ellington’s new project launches reflect increased activity in the UAE real estate market, where projects worth more than $323bn are in the execution or planning stages.

This aligns with a forecast from UK data analytics firm GlobalData that predicts the UAE construction sector will grow by 4.2% in real terms in 2025, driven by infrastructure, energy, utilities and residential construction projects.
