Egyptian regional utility provider Kafr El-Sheikh Water Supply & Sanitation Company (KSWSSC), through its project implementation unit, has tendered a contract for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).

The work to be carried out comprises permanent works related to the new Zaghoul El-Bahary WWTP project, which has a capacity of 15,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d), expandable to 25,000 cm/d, in the Motobas district of Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate.

KSWSSC expects to receive bids by 16 October for the contract, which is estimated to be worth €23m ($25.4m).

The contract entails the design, build and one-year operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant.

The contract is co-financed by the European Investment Bank.

The plant will receive influent wastewater from in-system pumping stations and treated effluent will be discharged to Zaghloul’s main drain.

The water treatment process sought involves extended aeration-activated sludge and will target carbon, nitrogen and suspended solids removal and sludge stabilisation.
