Egis selected for Jordan hospital project

4 June 2023

France’s Egis has been selected as the project manager for the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC) in Aqaba, Jordan.

Egis will oversee crucial aspects of building the project, including managing the construction and supervision contracts, establishing effective communication channels between all parties, monitoring construction progress, ensuring staff competency, overseeing document control, ensuring timely project execution, and monitoring any claims and variation orders.

The project involves building a clinic on a 12,000 square-metre plot. The main building is a five-floor structure consisting of a basement, ground floor and three upper floors with a total built-up area of 6,670 sq m and an additional building extension of 300 sq m.

The facility is designed to meet green building standards set by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and aims to achieve LEED Silver certification.

King Abdullah II of Jordan laid the foundation stone on 2 March 2023.

Once complete, the centre will provide advanced oncology and cancer patient care to the Southern governorates of Jordan, eliminating the need for travel to Amman for cancer treatment. The centre is also expected to attract medical tourists.

Another hospital project in Jordan is also moving ahead. The $400m project is being developed by the Saudi Jordanian Fund for Medical and Educational Investments Company (SJFMEI) on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.

SJFMEI appointed US-based Hill International in partnership with the local sub-consultant Dar al-Omran last year to provide project construction management services. The project team is now preparing to tender construction contracts.
