Dubai Municipality seeks firms for Dubai South project

19 March 2025

Dubai Municipality's sewerage and recycled water projects department (SRPD) has invited firms to prequalify for a contract to complete the construction of the Dubai South pumping station and main line.

The Dubai South pump station is located near Al-Maktoum International airport.

The existing pump station was constructed to serve the residential district of Dubai South, according to Fahd Al-Awadhi, director of the drainage and recycled water projects department at Dubai Municipality.

Al-Awadhi said in a social media post that the SRPD intends to engage an experienced contractor for the completion of construction on the Dubai South pumping station and main line, known as project DS255.

The scope of the work comprises upgrading the existing sewage pumping station from its current capacity of 940 litres a second (l/s) to 1,420 l/s, and other modifications to facilitate the maintenance process.

The selected contractor is expected to carry out hydraulic calculations to ensure that the operation parameters are within healthy operating conditions after the pumping capacity has been increased.

It is also expected to supply, install, test and commission two pumps, each with a capacity of 480 l/s, to increase the pumping capacity to 1,420 l/s.

Finally, the scope includes the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of all the electrical
connections and equipment, including modifying the location of the screen equipment to allow safe access for
maintenance activities.

Dubai Municipality expects to receive the statements of qualifications by 10 April.

Earlier this month, Dubai Municipality also invited firms to prequalify for a contract to provide financial advisory services for the procurement of the third phase of the extension of the Jebel Ali sewage treatment plant (STP) in the emirate.

Phase three of the Jebel Ali STP extension will be procured as a public-private partnership project, and the selected financial adviser will be working closely with the technical and other advisers appointed by Dubai Municipality to provide end-to-end advisory services on the procurement of a developer for the project.
