Dubai Municipality has announced a phased rollout of revised sewerage tariffs over three years starting in 2025.

It said the new fees, which mark the first increase in a decade, are aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan’s goal of addressing the needs of the emirate’s rapidly growing population.

The revised fees will be applied to existing customers who pay sewerage fees within areas managed by Dubai Municipality.

The new sewerage fees will be 1.5 fils a gallon from the beginning of 2025, increasing to 2 fils/gallon in 2026, and reaching 2.8 fils/gallon in 2027.

“The revised sewerage tariff remains well below the global average, including in cities with comparable GDP per capita,” Dubai Municipality said.

It added that the move aims to promote water conservation in the emirate and contribute to fostering sustainable practices, preserving water resources, and creating a “future-ready” urban infrastructure that can meet the growing needs of Dubai residents and visitors.

The municipality expects the emirate’s population to reach 7.8 million by 2040. According to the Dubai Statistics Authority, the emirate’s resident population as of Q2 2024 stood at 3.74 million.
