DP World and Masdar explore renewable supply chain

27 February 2024

DP World has signed a partnership agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to explore and implement renewable energy systems across DP World’s port operations in the Middle East and Africa.

According to DP World, the agreement aims to facilitate the widespread adoption of renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (bess) within its global supply chain.

DP World and Masdar agreed to work together for three years to identify optimal sites for the potential deployment of solar and energy storage systems, with an initial focus on Saudi Arabia, Senegal and Egypt.

The partnership “seeks to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy systems in DP World’s supply chain by sharing knowledge of the regulatory landscape and other challenges, particularly in emerging economies”.

The partnership is linked to the Dubai-based port operator’s goal to reduce its carbon footprint and “drive positive change in the supply chain industry”, its chairman and chief executive, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said.

DP World operates ports in 75 countries and has pledged to advocate for more urgent climate action.

It aims to become carbon neutral by 2040 and reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
