Dubai-based private real estate developer Azizi Developments has appointed South African firm DSGN as the interior design consultant for its $1.5bn Burj Azizi tower on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai.
Last month, Azizi appointed the local enabling contractor International Foundations Group (IFG) for the tower’s foundation works.
In an official statement, Azizi said the Burj Azizi will be the second-tallest tower in the world. However, the developer has not disclosed the final height.
The tower will feature a hotel, a vertical mall, residences, an observation deck and other facilities.
The construction of the tower will be completed in four years, the developer said.
Gardinia Contracting, a subsidiary of Azizi Developments, will carry out the main construction works.
The 828-metre-high Burj Khalifa is currently the world’s tallest building, followed by the 679-metre Merdeka 118 in Malaysia.
MEED reported in July last year that Azizi Developments had announced plans to construct the Burj Azizi in Dubai.
Another Dubai-based developer, Meydan, had previously planned to build Meydan Tower, a 100-storey tower, on the same site. However, the project was put on hold shortly after the initial works were undertaken in 2017.
Project history
In September 2022, Azizi Developments purchased a plot of land from Meydan on Sheikh Zayed Road, next to the World Trade Centre Metro Station 2. No further details about the upcoming development were officially released, but the developer said it was working on the design for a large iconic development on the plot.
In June last year, Azizi Developments announced it would build what it calls “Dubai’s newest seven-star hotel”. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.
