Client awards Egyptian chemicals contract

Egypt’s Helwan Fertilizers Company (HFC) has selected Cairo-based Engineering for Petroleum and Process Industries (Enppi) as project management consultant (PMC) for its project to develop a melamine production factory.

In a statement, Enppi said that the facility is expected to have a capacity of 60,000 tonnes annually.

The company’s scope of work will include reviewing and preparing key documents, suggesting specialised contractors, and supervising the project, which will be executed on a turnkey basis.

The contract was signed on 27 August by Halwan Fertilizer Company’s chairman, Hassan Abdul Aleem, and Enppi’s chairman Wael Latafi Mustafa.

Enppi did not disclose the value of the PMC contract.

The melamine plant is scheduled to be commissioned by 2027 and will be strategically located in the Helwan district, south of Cairo.

Hassan Abdel Alaim said that the melamine production project, which is the first of its kind in Africa and the second in the Middle East region, aims to meet the needs of the local market of melamine and export the rest to increase the volume of exports.

He also said that he believed that the establishment of the melamine factory would encourage the establishment of other factories to complement it, supporting the strength of the Egyptian national economy.

Melamine is an organic compound that is used in a wide range of industries. These include the manufacturing of plastics, building materials, insulation, inks, concrete, and adhesives.

In January, it was announced that HFC had selected Italy’s Eurotecnica to provide technology for the planned facility.
