Chinese contractor wins Damac towers deal
30 January 2023
Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation has been awarded the estimated AED955m ($260m) main construction contract for Damac’s Cavalli Casa ultra-luxury tower in the Al-Sufouh area between Dubai Media City and Dubai Marina.
China State was the third-largest global contractor in 2022 with $59bn of executed contracts, according to GlobalData’s Global 500 Contractors 2022 report published in December.
The company is also one of the most active international construction companies in Dubai and has worked for Damac before. In 2018, it was awarded contracts for the construction of the Aykon City towers project, located next to the Dubai Water Canal.
The main works package for the Cavalli Casa project includes constructing a 71-floor premium residential skyscraper featuring 441 one-, two, three-, four- and five-bedroom apartments equipped with private pools or a jacuzzi, along with parking spaces (G+6), a sky pool and garden, dining and leisure spaces, and an artificial beach. China State will also install jet elevators and safety and security systems, and complete other associated facilities.
The scheme has a built-up area of 78,976 square metres.
Dubai-based architect Shaun Killa designed the tower. The local office of KEO International Consultants is the supervision consultant. The interiors will feature designs by Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli.
The local National Piling Corporation (NPC) is the contractor for the enabling works.
