Chinese company announces $150m Egypt chemicals project

28 May 2025

China’s CAC Nantong is planning to develop a pesticides and chemicals facility in Egypt, according to a statement released by the company.

The firm said it will use its own money and a bank loan to develop the project, which will have a total investment value of up to $150m.

The facility will produce herbicides, fungicides, functional chemicals and other products.

It will have the capacity to produce 80,000 tonnes of chemicals a year, and the construction period will be two years.

CAC Nantong is mainly engaged in the research and development, production and sales of pesticide products and chemicals.

The company’s current sales network includes major agricultural markets in South America, North America, Southeast Asia and Europe.

CAC Nantong said Egypt has good infrastructure, a relatively stable political and social environment, and a foundation for industrial investment.

It also said that Egypt has logistical advantages, domestic resources, reliable industrial infrastructure and a competitive cost of labour.

The company said it would work to optimise the design of  the facility, reduce processing costs and plan for open cooperation with international partners.

The project will use Egypt as a regional hub to expand the company’s global market share, according to its statement.

In April, another Chinese company announced plans to develop a chemicals project in Egypt.

The board of China’s Kunming Chuan Jin Nuo Chemical Company approved the required investment for a planned phosphorus project in Egypt’s Suez region.

The decision was made at a meeting on 17 April 2025. The project’s construction period is expected to be three years, and the total investment is 1.9bn yuan ($265.4m).

The fixed-asset investment will be worth 1.6bn yuan, while 324.5m yuan will be working capital.

Kunming Chuan Jin Nuo Chemical Company is funding the project through self-raised funds as well as bank loans.

The planned facility will have an annual production capacity of:

  • 800,000 tonnes of sulfuric acid
  • 300,000 tonnes of industrial wet crude phosphoric acid
  • 150,000 tonnes of 52% phosphoric acid
  • 300,000 tonnes of monoammonium phosphate
  • 20,000 tonnes of sodium fluorosilicate

The scope of the project includes:

  • A sulfuric acid plant

The project is part of China’s Belt and Road development strategy, according to the statement from Kunming Chuan Jin Nuo Chemical Company.
