Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has announced that it has won a contract from South Korean contractor Samsung E&A for construction work at the Fadhili gas plant expansion project in Saudi Arabia.

CCC will execute the construction works on package four of the project, including the construction of utilities and offsite works.

According to an official announcement posted on the social networking site LinkedIn, CCC said that the construction works started on 30 November and the project is expected to be completed by June 2027.

In April last year, Samsung E&A announced that it had won $6bn-worth of contracts from Saudi Aramco for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works on the Fadhili gas plant expansion.

Aramco awarded Samsung E&A two of the four main EPC packages of the estimated $7.7bn Fadhili gas plant expansion scheme, giving it the largest share of work on the project.

The project is expected to increase the Fadhili gas plant’s processing capacity from 2.5 billion cubic feet a day (cf/d) to up to 4 billion cf/d, through the addition of three processing trains, each with a capacity of 500 million cf/d.

The Fadhili gas plant expansion, which is expected to be completed by November 2027, is also anticipated to add 2,300 metric tonnes a day of sulphur production, Aramco said, adding that the project is vital to its goal of raising gas production by more than 60% by 2030, compared to 2021 levels.

The South Korean contractor has won packages one and four of the Fadhili gas plant expansion project. The scope of work on package 1 relates to the EPC of key gas treatment units, and is understood to be the largest package of the project. Package 4 covers the utilities and offsites.

Another South Korean contractor, GS Engineering & Construction, has won the project’s package two, which involves the EPC of sulphur recovery units.

Saudi contractor Nesma & Partners has won the contract for package three, which entails early civil works on the project.
