Abu Dhabi reaches financial close for street lighting

Abu Dhabi Investment Office (Adio) and the Department of Municipalities & Transport (DMT) have reached financial close for phase two of Abu Dhabi’s energy-efficient road lighting LED public-private partnership (PPP) project.

Nojoom, a 50-50 joint venture of France’s EDF and Engie, was selected for the project last year.

The project encompasses the funding, procurement, setup, management and upkeep of 133,473 LED energy-saving light fixtures in Abu Dhabi.

During the concession span of 12 years, the project is anticipated to conserve nearly 2,400 million kWh of electrical power, which is roughly comparable to a 74 per cent decrease in energy usage.

As financial completion has been achieved, the project’s execution will begin.

MEED reported in August 2021 that Abu Dhabi had prequalified nine local and international companies for the second phase of its LED road lighting PPP project tender.

EDF and Engie signed a partnership agreement with DMT after a three-stage evaluation of the proposals submitted by prequalified bidders.

The selected consortium will deliver the project over five phases covering smaller geographical zones across Abu Dhabi.

Adio is the main agency responsible for coordinating, advancing and acquiring infrastructure projects using the PPP model in Abu Dhabi. In January, it tendered a PPP contract to develop accommodation for 3,250 students at Khalifa University.
