DIFC selects lead architect for mixed-use development

22 February 2023

Hong Kong-based LWK + Partners’ Dubai studio has been appointed as the lead architect of the DIFC Living and Innovation Two mixed-use development in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The project is a component of phase three of the DIFC Innovation Hub. It features 170 contemporary apartments and residential amenities, including an infinity pool, gym, kids’ play area, outdoor green areas and sky garden, residents’ lounges, commercial spaces and a conference centre.

In total, it comprises 144,155 square feet of offices and co-working spaces and 38,303 sq ft of retail amenities.

DIFC Living and Innovation Two broke ground in November 2022 and is scheduled to be “completed by 2025-26”, as DIFC governor Essa Kazim confirmed previously.

“DIFC Living and Innovation Two will emphasise sustainable design and high-quality amenities that will set the benchmark for integration across the GCC,” said LWK+Partners Mena managing director Kerem Cengiz.

“The main challenge, as set out by the project brief, was to create a distinctive identity for the building, which is set among two imposing neighbours, as well as establishing a pedestrian flow from Al-Mustaqbal Street to the Gate Avenue podium.”

DIFC focuses on expansion after record results

The pedestrian connection across the stepped podium introduces a series of cascading gardens and public plazas, while the twisted cube at the top of the tower, like a lantern, will house a restaurant.

The concept of sustainability is ingrained in the building design with environmental impact measurement in place throughout every phase of construction and post-handover, the firm said.

The scheme is designed to LEED standards, the global green building rating system.

The team working on the project included H2R Design, BG&E, Zutari, Hyland Edgar Driver Landscape, ZKLD Lighting Studio and Climatize.
