NMDC Group wins $42m Abu Dhabi contract

29 January 2026

Abu Dhabi-based contractor NMDC Group has announced that it has won a AED157m ($42.7m) contract from the Department of Municipalities & Transport to carry out dredging and reclamation works in the Rabdan area of Abu Dhabi.

In a filing with the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, the company said the scope of work includes dredging and reclamation, ground improvement, environmental works, demolition of an existing wave wall and stormwater pipeline works.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

Separately, NMDC Group said it has expanded its fleet of more than 170 vessels with the addition of a self-propelled cutter suction dredger valued at AED618m.

Measuring 148 metres in length and with a total installed power of 30,440 kilowatts, the new vessel is expected to strengthen NMDC’s marine dredging capacity as it executes a growing backlog and newly awarded projects in several jurisdictions.

The vessel is expected to be completed and operational in the first quarter of 2027.

NMDC Group also reported a backlog of AED62.3bn as of the third quarter of 2025.

Earlier in January, MEED reported that NMDC Dredging & Marine had won a deal to undertake initial development works at the upcoming Lulu Island development, located off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

The deal was awarded by the project developer, local firm Eagle Hills, which is led by Mohamed Alabbar, the founder and chairman of Emaar Properties.

The scope covers the construction of a bridge and early works on the island.
