Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities & Technology Zones (Modon) has signed agreements to build data centre facilities in three industrial clusters in Saudi Arabia.

Modon signed the first agreement with Dubai-based Gulf Data Hub (GDH). The data centre operator agreed to establish data centre facilities in the Second Industrial City in Dammam and Jeddah Oasis.

Modon is understood to have allocated 163,000 square metres of land for the planned data centre projects, which will require an investment of roughly SR1.3bn ($346m).

Riyadh-headquartered DataVolt also agreed to establish a data centre with an investment of SR2.5bn at Modon's technical zone in Riyadh.

According to Modon, the planned data centre by DataVolt will be built in a 55,000 square-metre land.

The last agreement was signed with Ezditek, also a Riyadh-based data centre operator.

According to Modon, the planned cloud-based data centre facility will have a capacity of 64MW, requiring an investment of around AED2.64bn.

The land allocated for Ezditek's data centre project is 55,000 square metres.

Investments in advanced data centre facilities worth multibillion dollars were announced last week during Leap, the annual technology event in Riyadh.
