Etihad WE completes four power and pump stations

5 September 2024

Sharjah-based Etihad Water and Electricity (Etihad WE) has officially inaugurated four new facilities, including three power stations and a pumping station in the UAE’s Northern Emirates.

The facilities that recently commenced operations include the AED137m Al-Hamidiya substation in Ajman. The new 132/11-kilovolt (kV) facility replaces an existing substation.

The second facility, also in Ajman, is a 33/11kV substation catering to the residential area of Mohamed Bin Zayed, which cost AED61m.

Located in Fujairah, the third facility, the Al-Nujaymat substation, has received an AED122m upgrade.

The final facility is located in Ras Al-Khaimah. The AED122m Al-Ghail pumping station project forms part of the Al-Ghail Distribution Centre. It is expected to help improve water distribution efficiency to the Central Region of Idhn, Al-Ghail, Shoukah, Kadra, Masfout, Muzairaa, as well as other areas in Sharjah, such as Dhaid, Malihah, Al-Madam and Hamda.

Etihad WE said these new installations address the growing utility demand driven by expanding populations and ongoing development in the region.

"The inauguration of these facilities marks a significant milestone in our strategic journey," stated Yousif Ahmed Al-Ali, CEO of EtihadWE.

"By enhancing our infrastructure, we are not only supporting the growth and needs of businesses and residents in the Northern Emirates but also actively contributing to the UAE's sustainability goals and its vision for economic diversification."

The projects support the UAE’s National Water Strategy 2036, which addresses each of the supply, demand and emergency preparedness dimensions of the water supply chain. The strategy seeks to reduce the Gulf state's potable water consumption by 20% and to increase the reuse of treated water to 95%.
