Contractors have expressed interest in participating in the main tendering exercise for a Saudi Aramco project that involves building a pipeline network as part of an expansion phase of Haradh Gas Oil Separation Plant 3 (GOSP 3) in Saudi Arabia.

The expansion of Haradh GOSP 3, located in the Haradh hydrocarbons field development in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, will result in an increase in the output of Arab Light crude grade from 300,000 barrels a day (b/d) to 420,000 b/d. The expansion project will also raise sour gas production to 32 million cubic feet a day.

The objective of the project is to build a 24-inch underground pipeline covering a distance of 24 kilometres (km), which will transport the additional sour gas volumes to Aramco’s existing sour gas processing network. According to the original schedule, the project is to be commissioned in 2026.

MEED previously reported that Aramco had issued the solicitation of interest (SoI) document for the Haradh GOSP 3 downstream pipeline project on 7 January, with contractors expressing interest within days.

However, Aramco issued a new SoI document for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender for the project in early August, according to sources.

Contractors have submitted responses to the fresh SoI document, sources said, adding that Aramco is expected to issue the main EPC tender in October.

The joint venture of US engineering and consultancy firm KBR and local firm Abdulhadi & Al-Moaibed Consulting Engineering Company (KBR-AMCDE) has performed front-end engineering and design (feed) work on the project, according to sources.

KBR-AMCDE has also performed pre-feed and feed works on the broader Haradh GOSP 3 expansion project, MEED previously reported.

The detailed scope of work on the project is as follows:

  • Installation of a 24-inch x 24km underground pipeline, including trenching, hauling, stringing, lowering and backfilling
  • Installation of pipeline kilometre markers and warning signs
  • Installation of pipeline crossing at main oil terminal highway, railway, rig roads, marl roads, buried pipelines and cables
  • Provision of scraper launcher and its associated piping inside Haradh GOSP 3
  • Provision of scraper receiver and its associated piping at KM-101.2 near Haradh GOSP 2
  • Provision of 20-inch jump-over between new and existing scraper launchers at Haradh GOSP 3
  • Provision of tie-lines and kicker lines for the new scraper launcher and receiver
  • Provision and installation of scraper launcher and its handling facilities (loading tray, jib crane, etc) at Haradh GOSP 3
  • Provision and installation of scraper receiver and its handling facilities at KM-101.2 near Haradh GOSP 2
  • Execution of civil and structural works
  • Power supply infrastructure, such as overhead lines and transformers
  • Instrumentation works
  • Installation of telecommunications systems.
